The formula
GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) / Σ(credits)
GPA converts letter grades to points on a 4.0 scale and averages them, weighted by credit hours so heavier courses count for more. Scales vary between institutions — some award 4.3 for an A+, others do not use plus and minus at all — so check yours before comparing.
