The formula
result = value × (factorₓ / factorᵧ)
Torque is twisting force: how hard you push multiplied by how far from the pivot you push. Doubling the spanner length halves the effort needed for the same torque, which is the entire reason breaker bars exist.

Why is torque measured in N·m and not joules?+
Both are force × distance, but torque acts at right angles to the lever arm rather than along the direction of motion, so it is kept in N·m to avoid confusing it with energy.
What torque do wheel nuts need?+
Most cars specify 80–120 N·m (roughly 60–90 lbf·ft), but always use the figure in your vehicle handbook.
